Rodrigo Baleia, born in 1971, is a freelancer environmental photojournalist based in Manaus (merged in the Amazon rainforest). He has started his interest in wild life in 1991, when he founded the Study Group of Aquatic Mammals of Rio Grande do Sul (GEMARS) with other six biologists. He had worked on this NGO for four years covering the field works and analyzing scientific data. Rodrigo also was part of the Cetacean Specialist Group of IUCN. After this period, he have begun to photograph and document the social and environmental aspects of the Southern Brazilian coast, always emphasizing the human interaction with marine mammals (Pinípedes and Cetaceans). Baleia, as he is used called, covered maritime expeditions to many non-governmental organizations, he also has a large experience in Amazon forest. Today, Rodrigo works as a freelancer photographer spreading material related to environment and science and technology. He cooperates with the National Geographic Brazil, the National Geographic News and the news agencies –Zumapress.com, gettyimages.com and the Brazilians Folha Press. Just keep in mind that I´m fully surrounded by Amazon rainfores (But, pictures anytime anywhere with BGAN/TESACOM)
