Adventure Story Here it is.....the origin for the 2009 mother of all off-road races in the Western Hemisphere, the Baja 1000. Starting, and ending, in Ensenada Mexico, the race winds thru the backcountry and small towns of the rugged Mexican desert, looping back to the western coast for a total of 672.85 miles
The course is following the same basic path as the one run in 2005.....heading East out of town, then southeast toward the small towns along the western shores of the Gulf of California, back again toward the Pacific coast, then northward into Ensenada.
Adventure Tips Do Not try this at home....get off your butts and go to Mexico to give it a whirl. ;-) Seriously though, this is not something to be attempted by the ill-prepared or faint of heart. It requires no shortage of mental and physical preparation because the desert is an extremely hostile environment.....especially if you're on a motorcylce and you've got an 800hp trophy truck screaming up behind you at 130mph. Have a good support team and the blessing of your significant other, familiarize yourself with the terrain, the weather, and wildlife then plan accordingly. Make sure your equipment in good working order and can withstand the extreme conditions you'll likely encounter.
And most importantly, have a hell of a time doin it!!! Change and Uncertainty are the only constants in the universe. Better get comfortable with that, because you might just find yourself alone in the dark on the side of the trail, singing with coyotes under the starry skies waiting for your support team to show up.
