Adventure Story
Sept 9- Dulcinea has been launched and is now at the dock. The sails and canvass are on and all supplies for the trip are on board. Tomorrow is cleanup and systems check out. Friday we will depart for Annapolis Md. weather permitting.
Sept 10- A day spent cleaning and organizing. All systems checked out ok . Engine started with the first turn of the key after 10 months on dry land.
Sept 11- The weather is not cooperating. Had appointments in Annapolis to have the rigging inspected/ tuned and the engine checked out this afternoon. Rescheduled to Monday am. Hope to leave Rock Hall Sat. am and sail to Annapolis. Great place to spend a weekend even if it was not part of the plan. A good day to figure how to use this software.
Sept 12- Weather has improved .Rain has stopped and winds have calmed. Departed Rock Hall at noon bound for Annapolis. Arrived Annapolis shortly after 2 pm. Picked up a mooring ball in the harbor. That will be home for two nights. Inflated the dingy and put the motor on.Had to take Ruby to shore. Found a nice outdoor cafe for dinner that was dog friendly and the food was excellent! Back on the boat to relax.
Sept 13- Spent today on the mooring in Annapolis. Just relaxed and enjoyed the harbor area of the city. Had dinner with our friends Nelson and Liz Furman. They came to Annapolis by boat from St. Michaels.
Sept 14- Today is scheduled maintenance day . Safety check on standing and running rigging, and engine checkout. Rigging check OK and the engine is ready to Go! Discovered a pin hole leak in the stern tube late in the day. Boat will be hauled in the morning to fix the leak.
Sept 15- Hauled the boat early this morning and hung in the travel lift all day allowing the sealant to dry. Back in the water at 4:00 pm, leak fixed! Up early tomorrow and off to Solomon Md. We have spent the last two days in Bert Jabins Yacht Yard. A truly world class operation. It was fun to watch the yard operations and talked to a lot of "characters".
Sept 16- off to Solomons! Weather turned out ok and we had a great sail/motor sail to Solomons. Tied uo at the Springcove Marina for the night. This is the farthest South we have been with the boat Everything from here on is new to us. Started seeing Pelicans today. Not many boats on the water today. Plan is Deltaville tomorrow, about another 60 miles.
Sept 17-  Left Solomons 9:30 am arrived Deltaville 6:00pm. There were small craft warnings on the bay today, 3-4 foot waves and 20- 25 knot winds. We slugged it out all day. Ruby got seasick ( Debbie didn't !)when we put her below to keep her from bouncing around. Won't do that again. The hand held shower bounced off it's mount and somehow turned on the shower head. Ran for two hours before I went to use the head and water poured out the door when I opened it. Bilge filled with water. At least it was clean water. I'll not forget to turn off the fresh water pump before getting underway ever again. We had a dolphin escort into Deltaville. One on each side of the boat. They are much faster than my boat. Weather looks favorable for any easy ride to Norfolk tomorrow. After today we need an easy one. No chance to take pictures underway today, too rough. Will post some tomorrow.
